Week 1
16
Your baby You may not be aware of it, but about 3 weeks after the first day of your last period, an egg was released from your ovaries. Around 1.5-3.5 million sperms have travelled up your womb to the tube and the strongest, fastest and wittiest Mr. Right has fertilised the ovum. Well a baby is not on board yet. Confused? It is very hard to pinpoint the exact date of ovulation and your due date is calculated from the first day of your last period. Now both the egg and sperm are meeting, dividing multiple times and its all happening in the tube. Your baby is called a zygote and consists of few cells. This whole week it will continue to multiply and move from your fallopian tubes towards the womb. You When one of the 10-20 follicles was maturing in your ovaries to become an ovum, your body is preparing itself to support the baby. The lining of your womb has thickened to prepare for implantation. As soon as the zygote has formed, you have started releasing Early Releasing Factor (ERF) which will prevent your body from rejecting the zygote as a foreign substance. You won’t feel nauseous and there are still no symptoms of pregnancy. But if you have been monitoring your body temperature, you’d notice that the temperature remain elevated even after the ovulation date. Don’t try a home pregnancy test, because it will still be negative. Things to think about If you are trying to get pregnant then you must have already stopped using contraception. If you have been observing the changes your body went through, you may get slight hints that you might be pregnant. Try to stay healthy - your health when trying for a baby is really important . Eat a healthy diet, be active and do some light exercise everyday. No smoking please :) and avoid alcohol, pills, medicine and other drugs unless recommended by your doctor. Some medications, such as pseudoephedrine, antibiotics like Streptomycin and Clotrimazole are harmful to the baby, especially in the early weeks of their development. Ask your doctor whether you need vitamin supplements. Maya’s tips
